Co-founder and former technical director of Williams, Patrick Head hopes that his former team will be able to climb up the slope this year, after two difficult seasons ended in last place in the championship.
“The thing with F1 is that there are no bad teams. All the teams are very good” explains Head. “When you are tenth out of ten, you look very bad. This year, it will be important to get back on track.”
“I am not naive enough to think that they will fight with the best, but I hope that they will at least be in fight in what is called the bottom of the peloton. From there, they will have to go up. can’t manage the business side of an F1 team by always finishing tenth. “
However, Head does not shoot the ambulance and congratulates Claire Williams for the work she does in more than difficult conditions, which are not the legacy of two bad seasons, but of a problem rooted much deeper in the team.
“Claire has done well to put together a significant budget this year, after two years of finishing in tenth place. For various reasons, without necessarily saying that people are bad, they had a series of technical leaders, some had skills but were out of place to run a business like Williams. “
“They’re having a hard time staying alive right now. There are some pretty great people there, but therein lies the difference: they need solid technical leadership.”
