Formula 1 | Mercedes’ ban on ‘party’ mode must be precisely defined

The meeting between the engine manufacturers and the FIA has taken place and everything indicates that the technical directive intended to remove the ‘party’ mode from the engines will not be ready in time for Spa-Francorchamps but rather for Monza, as we reported to you yesterday.

Honda and Mercedes are the two engine manufacturers to have expressed reservations and questions about the FIA’s means of control after the publication of this directive.

For Toto Wolff, director of Mercedes F1, “The FIA will be able to see with just one mode, in an easier way, whether all the engines are in the nails of the regulations.”

“But the rule must be better specified, it is the priority.”

Mercedes have reportedly pushed for a postponement until next year but the FIA and the other three engine manufacturers disagree.

“We’ve been focusing on mapping for years and now a whole chunk of F1 doesn’t want it anymore. Okay, we’re going to take this as a new challenge. But, like I said, before we go. accept (the directive) it must be precisely defined. “

According to the discussions held this week, the possibility of having an ‘overtake’ button (to overtake) would remain, which would allow to have punctually – the time of a maximum straight line – more power.

What is certain is that the FIA wants the same ‘engine’ mode to be used during all qualifying and the race with some exceptions: the warm-up and deceleration laps, those to go to the grid, behind the safety car, after the checkered flag should reduce engine power.
