Former Ukrainian Football Player Alexander Aliyev: His Views on War, Politics, and Personal Life

On the YouTube channel “Visiting Gordon” it turned out interview with former Ukrainian football player, former Dynamo Kyiv midfielder Alexander Aliyev.

The founder of the GORDON publication, Dmitry Gordon, recorded an interview with Aliyev while walking around Kyiv.

During the interview, Aliyev spoke about:

how he met the first day of the war and why he decided to take up arms; whether he could shoot at the Russian invader and whether he could kill the president of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin; quarrel with relatives in Russia because of the war; attitude towards the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky; your problems with alcohol and coding; the health of his friend, former football player Artem Milevsky, who survived a coma; relationship with his ex-wife, with whom he lives in the same apartment even after the divorce.

“I haven’t had to shoot at the Russians yet, but I will do it with pleasure,” Aliyev said. “I would love to kill Putin, but he himself will soon grunt.”

Aliyev was born in 1985 in Khabarovsk (Russia) into the family of a military man. Since childhood, I have been fond of football. He studied at the Moscow Spartak football school, where, according to Aliyev’s recollections, the conditions were very bad. In 1999 he transferred to the Dynamo football academy (Kyiv). Later he received Ukrainian citizenship.

In 2002, Aliyev began performing in Dynamo’s reserve team. In the same year, he made his debut in the Ukrainian Championship, becoming the youngest player from the Kyiv team to play in this tournament. He played for the Kiev club until 2010, then moved to Lokomotiv Moscow, but in 2011 he returned to Dynamo. In 2014–2016, the footballer played in Anzhi (Russia), Rusi (Lvov) and Taraz (Kazakhstan).

Aliyev played for the Ukrainian national team in 2008–2012. He played 28 matches and scored six goals.

After the Russian attack, he went to defend Ukraine.

Aliyev is divorced. He has a son and daughter.
