Parliament postponed the decision to provide the so-called technical assistance for Ukraine. This came amid an unprecedented three-day visit by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. Prime Minister Kiril Petkov has announced that he will head a Bulgarian delegation to visit Kyiv, inviting representatives of all coalition partners.
“It’s been a long time. We have been at war for two months. Ukrainians are fighting for their country. The debate on military aid had to start earlier in order to have an earlier solution. At first, there seemed to be institutional confusion because there was talk that the war would end in a few days and that Russia would win. This was a strategic mistake and it confused the decision-making process in Bulgaria. ” This was said in “Offensive” on NOVA NEWS by the former Minister of Defense Velizar Shalamanov.
According to him, all of Bulgaria’s weapons since the Warsaw Pact could potentially be used by Ukrainians.
“In 2014, I was Minister of Defense and I was at the Wales Summit. Then the idea was launched in NATO to reduce dependence on Russia by disarming Soviet systems and accelerating the introduction of NATO systems. Due to the reluctance of Mr Borissov’s second and third governments, this process was delayed. Now, although in a more difficult situation, we have this opportunity and we must realize it, “Shalamanov explained.
“The prime minister has pledged to lead a delegation to Kyiv. It is more important that Petkov takes the delegation to Madrid for the NATO summit. An important decision will be made there – what will the defense in Eastern Europe look like in the years to come “, said the former Minister of Defense.
