Neil Warnock, former manager of Middlesbrough and now working at Huddersfield Town, warns Ajax that Chuba Akpom must be used in the right way. The English trainer emphasizes in an interview with The Daily Mail that Akpom will not have to be used as a striker.
Ajax took over Akpom from Middlesbrough a week ago for fourteen million euros. At that club he had a top year with 28 goals last season. ‘I wish him the best of luck. It’s a miracle that Middlesbrough got this amount for him, so that’s very well done,” Warnock compliments his former employer.
“I think the people at the top will be happy if they can get that kind of money,” Warnock continues. Only Michael Carrick (Middlesbrough manager, ed.) Can get this out of Chuba Akpom. I never considered using him as a striker, because he can’t play up front. I hope Ajax didn’t buy him for that either, because then he will play in England again next year or somewhere else’, warns the Englishman.
Akpom Career
Ajax has signed Akpom until the summer of 2028. The striker, who went through his youth academy at Arsenal, played – often on a rental basis – for many clubs in his career. He played for Brentford, Coventry City, Nottingham Forest, Hull City, Brighton & Hove Albion, STVV, PAOK Saloniki and thus Middlesbrough.
