Former maid on Prince Andrew’s “tantrums”: “He scolded me for not closing the curtains properly” | Royalty

RoyaltyWorking for the British Prince Andrew (61) is no fun. That tells Charlotte Briggs (47), the former maid of the son of the Queen (95), to the newspaper The Sun. “He made me go up four floors like crazy to close the curtains. And that while he himself was wrong.”

“I remember bursting into tears at that moment,” she continues. “This man had fought for his country during the Falklands War, but standing up to draw his curtains seemed to be too much trouble for him. Completely ridiculous, but it illustrates how he behaved. He thinks he is better than the rest. A stark contrast to Princes Charles and Edward, who are very jovial and friendly.”

Charlotte started working at Buckingham Palace at the age of 21, in January 1996. The woman enjoyed her job until she was assigned a new position after six months. Prince Andrew, then 36, had moved home after divorcing Sarah Ferguson and needed a personal maid. “Nobody wanted that job because he was known for his temper tantrums,” the woman continues. “But that didn’t deter me. I thought: ‘I can handle that challenge, I’m going for it.’”

Unfortunately, according to the woman, Andrew quickly lived up to his reputation. “He really expected me to do his bidding,” she confesses. “He didn’t want to do anything himself. We made his bed, put his teddy bears in the right place (Andrew has a special fondness for plush toys, ed.) and laid out his pajamas. He behaved like a spoiled brat. One day he called me names for the dirt on the street. “Can’t your f***ing do any good?” he yelled. Apparently I hadn’t closed the curtains completely, there was still a gap between them. I was so mad, but I couldn’t react to it or I’d lose my job. After that, I often hid from him. Afraid there would be another tantrum.”

At that time, Charlotte was paid about 715 euros per month and was also allowed to live in the palace. In August 1997, however, she called it quits and resigned. “I actually feel a lot of pity for the Queen,” concludes the British. “Especially since Andrew has been accused of sexual abuse. I think she is going through a very difficult period right now.”
