Former Lebanese Deputy Speaker Elie Ferzli Discusses Political Developments and Israel’s Intentions

Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Elie Ferzli, said, “When President Saad Hariri made his decision to retire from political work, there was an international trend supporting the revolution, so he presented himself and resigned, but the rest of the parties did not feel this necessity. Then the parliamentary elections took place, and a council arrived unable to make decisions.” “.

In an interview via “Spot Shot” within the “Point of View” program, Ferzli said: In the absence of Hariri, the absence of a basic and important partner from political life became clear, and the fans of this partner expressed themselves on February 14 when they demanded the return of Saad Hariri to the political arena, and in my estimation he is “He actually came back yesterday.”

He continued, “One of the positive indicators of this return is his meeting with US Ambassador Lisa Johnson, whom the latter described upon her exit from the meeting as excellent. Likewise, the issue of his appearance on Al-Hadath and Al-Arabiya channels in itself is considered an important development in his Gulf relations, as the Arab Gulf was unable to find a reassuring personality.” It has more than Sheikh Saad, in addition to his public meeting with the head of the Marada Movement, Suleiman Franjieh.”

He pointed out that “the decision to host Hariri on Al-Hadath channel is an objective decision for the station, indicating a realistic engagement with Lebanese public opinion. As for Hariri’s words about retribution for his father’s killers, it was clear that he meant the defendants who died in Syria.”

He pointed out that “the war in Gaza is long and complicated, due to the involvement of the extreme right-wing government in a complete replacement Talmudic religious project, but to date all Israeli plans have failed, and the enemy’s losses are great in the face of the Palestinian people’s resilience in defending their land.”

He stressed that “this enemy will not retreat easily, and as soon as it finishes with Gaza, it will head to Lebanon. Therefore, it seeks to expand the circle of war in an attempt to eliminate everything that might pose a threat to its existence, but the resistance avoids sliding, and deals with the situation rationally, even if war occurs.” Lebanon will pay the price, but the biggest price will be paid by Israel.”

Internally, Ferzli considered that “the prestige of the Lebanese Forces and the Free Patriotic Movement is declining due to their current positions, and it would have been better for them to maintain the gains they gained after the Taif Agreement despite the loopholes in it. What is certain is that after the Gaza War, these gains will decline further.”

He added, “During the presidency of Michel Aoun, the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Gebran Bassil, exaggerated his role, using Hezbollah’s muscles in many situations, which led to damage to him and the party along with him. As for the Lebanese Forces Party, it is more sober and empowered due to its popularity and bloc.”

He explained, “When I call for Franjieh’s arrival to the presidency, I find this to be in the interests of Christians and the nation, because with his arrival it becomes possible to decide on the issue of weapons, the return of the displaced, and strengthening relations with Saudi Arabia, and the success rate in these issues may exceed 70%.”

President Elie Ferzli concluded by addressing the Israelis, advising them “to be smarter and not to go in the direction of expanding the scope of the war, because in the end everything has a ceiling,” warning that “we can never rely on Israel’s intentions.”
