Former Jumbo CEO, Frits van Eerd, Taken to Court in Money Laundering Investigation and Mercedes Dispute

Frits van Eerd, the former CEO of Jumbo, has been taken to court by Drenthe car dealer Theo Eggens. Eggens, like Van Eerd, is a suspect in a major money laundering investigation. Eggens wants Van Eerd to pay one and a half euros for a classic Mercedes. According to the car dealer, Van Eerd refuses to pay for the car.

This concerns an invoice of 155,000 euros for a classic Mercedes Benz from 1957. Van Eerd bought the car a few years ago from Eggens’ car company, examined it Financial Daily.

Van Eerd’s lawyer says that the former supermarket boss has already paid for the Mercedes for a long time. “My client has indicated that he is used to paying bills immediately, or otherwise the next day. There was no reason for him not to pay,” Robbert Jonk told the newspaper. Eggens’ lawyer denies this again.

A spokesperson for the East Brabant court confirms the conflict between Eggens and Van Eerd. The judge in Den Bosch will pass a judgment on it next month.

Acquaintances from motocross
Van Eerd and Eggens knew each other from motocross. The supermarket millionaire sponsored the Dutch motocross championship through Jumbo for many years and was a financial backer for talented drivers.

Money laundering investigation
Within a few months, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) will decide whether Frits van Eerd and other suspects in the money laundering investigation will be prosecuted. The Public Prosecution Service will also look at who will drop out and who may be offered a settlement.

It is therefore not yet certain whether Van Eerd will have to appear in court in the money laundering case. What is certain is that he is expected in court in the conflict over the Mercedes with the car dealer.
