Former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan buys ticket to watch Formula E with family

Former Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, witnessed Race 1 Formula E Jakarta with his wife and children. He came as a casual spectator, not an invited guest occupying a special stand in the Royal or Deluxe Suite.

When met by the media crew at the location, last Saturday (3/6), Anies Baswedan admitted that he had bought the Jakarta Formula E ticket himself. He and his family occupied Grand Stand 2E with other spectators from the general public.

“I’ve had a ticket for a long time, bought a ticket. I bought a ticket, I’m not an invited (guest),” said Anies Baswedan to the media crew in the circuit area ahead of Race 1 Formula E Jakarta.

As an ordinary spectator, Anies comes with a populist style. He and his family took the shuttle bus provided by the committee in the Kemayoran area, Central Jakarta. In fact, he also had to undergo examinations like other spectators from the general public.

The moment when Anies Baswedan was searched by officers was shared via his official social media account. Apart from Anies, his wife and children also had to undergo the same procedure before entering the circuit.

When he arrived at the stands, he also acted like an ordinary spectator, not as an initiator of Formula E, a former regional head, let alone a presidential candidate. He sat and mingled with the other audience. In fact, he is happy to serve photo requests.

“I am grateful to be able to enjoy all the series (events). Previously it was part of planning, now it is part of experiencing,” he said.

In the end, Anies Baswedan hopes that more similar championships will be held in the capital. Because, by doing so, the names of Jakarta and Indonesia will resonate in various parts of the world.

“As a resident of Jakarta, I am proud that Jakarta will be the host again. The names of Jakarta and Indonesia are known to the world even further. Hopefully there will be more events like this in Jakarta in the future,” said Anies.
