Former international is fed up with football

Former international Robert Huth has settled with professional football. At some point he was “pissed off” and “just had his nose full”.

For the former international Robert Huth, the importance of football has declined rapidly. He is only now realizing how unimportant football is, the 35-year-old told the “Tagesspiegel”. “I hardly watch football anymore,” said Huth, who ended his career in January 2019.

Today he studies “Sporting Directorship” in England. Already during his active time he was “pissed off at being reduced to just a job as a footballer,” said Huth, who at the end of his career was “just fed up” with football. Huth moved from Union Berlin to Chelsea at the age of 16 in 2002 and won the Premier League championship in 2016 with outsider Leicester City.

“Nobody tells you that, of course.”

Despite a functioning career, Huth would no longer take this step today. “Not without training, not without help,” said the former defender, nicknamed “The Berlin Wall” in England. Ultimately, one percent of all the youth players in the big academies could make a living from professional football. “Nobody will tell you that, of course,” said Huth.

Huth Jürgen Klinsmann owes that he matured to a 19-time international. In his first game as national coach, today’s coach from Hertha BSC ordered the defender, who was almost unknown at the time in Germany. Huth could also imagine coming to Union or Hertha in Berlin as part of a course of study “for a kind of internship”.

Huth does not see himself as a TV expert – like many of his former colleagues. “Better not. I’ve done it twice. It really isn’t that much fun. There are better things in life.”
