Former First Lady Ana García Seeks to Correct DEA Agent’s Testimony on Drug Trafficking in Honduras, Requesting Reopening of File

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES.- Following an email received by the former first lady, Ana García, the defense lawyer of the former president of Honduras (2014-2018 and 2018-2022) Juan Orlando Hernández, Renato Stabile requested to reopen the file and correct the testimony by Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent Jennifer Taul.

According to information from journalist Matthew Russell Lee, of the international agency, Inner City Press, yesterday Thursday -March 7- around 5:50 pm, Stabile addressed judge Kevin Castel in the side bar to make an argument. that he received by email from the wife of the former Honduran president in relation to drug trafficking in Honduras.

Ruseel Lee explained that Stabile told Castel he wanted to ask him more questions about how much cocaine had been trafficked in Honduras because he learned “something at night.”

The judge asked: How did you learn it? to which the man responded with an “email from the defender’s wife (JOH).”

Later, this Friday morning – March 8 – Stabile made the request official through a letter, where he described Taul’s testimony as “false” or “misleading.”

Stabile argued that during the trial of Geovanny Fuentes Ramírez in 2021, the US government called expert Darío Euraque to testify, who was described by the Court as “an expert in the history of Honduras and its social and political systems.”

In his statement, Euraque asserted that drug trafficking in Honduras “had decreased,” contrary to what Taul stated during Hernández’s trial, who considered that drug trafficking in the country had increased from 2014 to 2019.

Stabile requests that the US Attorney’s Office correct the summary of the DEA agent’s testimony and that the document provided to the jury say verbatim “the volume of cocaine through Honduras decreased during the presidency of the accused, from 2014 to 2022.”

For her part, the former first lady of Honduras and wife of JOH, Ana García, assured that Jennifer Taul’s testimony “contradicts” the word of the President of the United States and institutions such as the DEA, the Customs Service and the Coast Guard.

“Do you mean that the “expert” from the DEA contradicts the word of the President of the USA and the DEA, the Customs Service and the Coast Guard?” García questioned.

In addition, it adhered to the International Narcotics Control Strategy Report (INCSR) to ensure that during the Hernández government that the flow of drugs “decreased by large percentages.”
