Former editorial director Sergio Honorez leaves Belvision and Média (…)

The arrival of Stéphane Beaujean, ex-artistic director of the FIBD of Angoulême, at the head of the Dupuis editorial team asked the question of what would become of his predecessor Sergio Honorez who has been running the editorial for thirteen years. Let’s go back …

It all started in 2004 when Média Participations acquired Éditions Dupuis, a house founded in 1922 which launched in 1938 the famous Spirou’s Journal. This buyout from CNP ofAlbert Brother caused a real earthquake in Marcinelle and three years of instability (see our full dossier on this subject)

Sergio Honorez arrives at this prestigious post of editorial director of Dupuis in March 2007. Close to the great authors of the house, the man who has already known several careers: cartoonist and scriptwriter of BD from the age of 17 in Spirou, Tintin and Circus, he was with Bert Bertrand and Thierry Culliford, one of the figures of the Bowling Balls and in particular of the troop of Snuls with Frédéric Jannin, a television phenomenon comparable to that of Dummies in France. He also had a remarkable career in advertising film.

This is why, when Stéphane Beaujean arrived at Dupuis, we were not surprised that his steps led him to Belvision, the legendary Brussels animation studio which has become one of the armed arms of the audiovisual sector in the group Media Participations. Alongside its managing director Raphaele Ingberg, Sergio Honorez was to take charge of the development of original content from the universes of the group. However, Edition Dupuis confirmed to us yesterday the departure of Sergio Honorez to devote himself to his personal projects.

We contacted him so that he could explain the reasons for this departure:

“My life is organized around two passions: comics and audiovisual production. Before joining Dupuis, I had made over 300 advertising films, some of which won awards in Cannes and New York. Today, I return to this passion that goes from writing to editing, through the direction of actors. Which is true happiness. Managing a set, creating fictional material is an act of pleasure, as were the years of creation within the Snuls[Asexplainedabove[Commeexpliquéci-dessusThe Snuls is a group of Belgian humorists known for its weekly program broadcast on Canal + Belgium.]]. It is this creative emotion that I now want to find. “

Sergio Honorez draws a positive balance from the thirteen years spent at Média Participations, almost exclusively occupied by the post of editorial director at Dupuis: “These thirteen years were rich in education, meetings and curiosity. Thank you Dupuis, I hope I have laid a stone there. Not perfect, but sincere. “

And to indicate to us as a conclusion: “An editorial director is nothing compared to the talent of an author. Whether in comics, movies, or the Internet. Author is the most beautiful, but least regarded profession in the world. It is up to publishers and producers to raise it to its fair level. “
