Shortly before 8:00 p.m., the hearing began to formalize the investigation being carried out into the complaint of gang rape made by a woman last Sunday. It is estimated that the prosecutor in the case, Sylvia Lovesio, will request the imputation of one or more of the investigated.
The hearing was scheduled for 6:10 p.m., but its start was delayed by the judge in the case testing positive for coronavirus. His surrogate took his place and the instance began almost two hours after the stipulated.
Earlier this Thursday, the three eldest investigated were detained “for security”, confirmed their defender, Martín Frustaci. At a press conference after the statements of those questioned (in addition to the older ones, a minor did so as a witness, since his case is in the jurisdiction of the Prosecutor’s Office for adolescents), the lawyer indicated: “A statement was taken, evidence was provided by the defense and we are awaiting the outcome of the process”.
Frustaci added that he presented today to the Prosecutor’s Office the videos with intimate content of what happened in the early hours of Sunday 23, whose audios were broadcast on Tuesday by the program La Pecera (Azul FM). In that sense, he pointed out that what transpired is only part of what he gave to the prosecutor.
The case also has the woman’s advance declaration pending, members of the Legal Office of the University of the Republic (Udelar) directed by the lawyer Juan Williman, which sponsors the complainant.
Prior to this hearing, it was learned that the prosecutor Sylvia Lovesio seeks to advance the investigation during the remainder of this week through the various statements and access to evidence.
In the early hours of Sunday the 23rd, the Police were alerted for an abuse of a woman. In her complaint, the woman maintained that she had gone to a dance venue in the Cordón area and that there she met a man, who invited her to his house. When they were together, she said, two more men came and raped her. Until last week there were three investigated: two older and one minor. But on Thursday the 27th the investigation added a fourth involved.
In addition, the investigation was initiated due to the “violation” of article 259 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which prevents the leaking of reserved information by those people forced to keep that reserve, added the Prosecutor’s Office.
A group of legislators and leaders of the Broad Front also announced that they will make the “relevant complaints” for the dissemination of the audios.
