Ford Mustang GTD: The Most Extreme Version of the Muscle Car

To share

The Ford Mustang GTD was introduced this week and surprised many people. This is the most extreme version of the muscle car made by the American automaker, being a true masterpiece of automotive engineering. After all, he’s not just a track car made for the streets. Its importance is much greater.

For starters, the Mustang GTD is, in fact, a true Mustang. Production begins at Ford’s Flat Rock, Michigan plant before being shipped to renowned engineering firm Multimatic. Responsible for building the Ford GT and other high performance cars, Multimatic worked closely with Ford to develop this model.

The heart of the Mustang GTD is its powerful 5.2 liter supercharged V8 engine, possibly derived from the legendary GT500. With an output of 800 hp, it is the most powerful engine Ford has ever produced for a street-legal Mustang. In addition, the GTD features dry sump lubrication, allowing for even more impressive performance.

The focus on weight reduction is evident throughout the vehicle, with parts such as the fenders, hood, roof, trunk lids, and diffuser all made from carbon fiber. The Mustang GTD also features a tubular rear subframe, increasing stiffness and improving cornering performance.

Aerodynamics is another highlight of the car. With 20-inch wheels in forged aluminum (optionally available in magnesium), the vehicle has extremely wide front and rear tires, ensuring exceptional grip on the streets. Additionally, the semi-active suspension adjusts spring rates and ride height, providing an even more thrilling driving experience.

And for enthusiasts who want an even more exclusive touch, it’s possible to customize the GTD with special paint jobs.

Ford expects the GTD to be a true record-breaker in terms of performance. The brand expects it to complete a lap of the legendary Nürburgring in less than seven minutes.

With an estimated price of around US$300,000 (R$1.5 million), production will be limited and the first cars should reach buyers between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025.
