History is not written with opinions. But with sources of various origins, that we cross between them. To establish facts.
In contemporary history, archives are not lacking. But they only opened up to researchers slowly, and with difficulty.
On 2021, the Macron government illegally closed archives that were still available for consultation a short time ago. Have become unofficially prohibited: Archives on the 20s, 30s and 40s. Decades in which the upper middle class committed crimes, misdeeds and betrayals, before and during the Nazi occupation.
Archives after [1945 are also again impossible to consult: However, during the 40s, 50s and 60s, France was also soiled in wars and colonial shenanigans: Notably the Algerian war, Françafrique … the genocide of Rwanda from 1994 …
The bourgeois power has many difficulties in managing the current situation and the anger of the French. Rather than taking the risk that researchers establish compromising facts for the leaders, it was decided to simply close access to the archives. And therefore to prevent historians from accessing their working material.
When you don’t know where you come from, you don’t know where you are.
