The Government qualified this Sunday as a “breath of hope” the arrival of 864 thousand doses from the AstraZeneca laboratory to advance the national coronavirus vaccination plan, within the framework of a strategy that aims to stop the growth of infections and alleviate the health system in the next 15 days.

Cafiero and the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, attended the receipt of 864,000 doses from the Netherlands, in what constituted the second installment through the Covax mechanism.

“Each vaccine that arrives is a breath of hope,” said Cafiero at the facilities from where the doses will be distributed to the 24 jurisdictions of the country.
He considered that this type of delivery brings the country closer to “turning the page” of the pandemic and praised the “key determination” of President Alberto Fernndez “when it comes to hiring and buying more than 65 million vaccines for Argentines.”
Vizzotti anticipated that the vaccines could reach the closest jurisdictions this Sunday.

On the Covax mechanism, he explained that “It seeks equity in the access of the countries with the most economic vulnerability” and that Argentina participates “by financing one hundred percent of its vaccines.”
He also pointed out that “there is a long way to go for equitable access” to inoculation in the world and thinks: “We have to value that Argentina receives doses in a sustained manner” and that “we have already exceeded the 8 million doses” received.
At the Andreani center in Benavdez, AstraZeneca doses will be stored between 2 and -8 degrees Celsius.
There, the customs clearance, reception, thermal control, counting, fractionation and conditioning process will be carried out, to then start the distribution to the 24 jurisdictions.
The Covax mechanism was promoted by the World Health Organization, the European Commission and France to guarantee equitable access to a vaccine for all countries, in an agreement that was signed by 172 nations, including Argentina.
