For the first time since 1990, there is no duel for the Johan Cruijff Scale

The Johan Cruijff Scale is canceled for the first time in thirty years. The traditional season opening between the Dutch champion and the cup winner is not included in the new playing calendar of the KNVB.

“We quickly learned that playing a Johan Cruijff Scale has no added value if you do not have a Dutch champion and cup winner,” says Jan Bluyssen, manager of league affairs at the KNVB.

“In addition, it will of course also provide an extra weekend for a round in the premier league. That gives us more flexibility in the coming season.”

9 augustus

The Johan Cruijff Scale would normally have been played on August 9 had it not been for the corona virus that brought down the sports world and that competitions were suspended.
