For the elected of Paris Alice Coffin, “the concentration of men in the same place of power induces a climate conducive to attacks”

The feminist activist and elected to the Council of Paris Alice Coffin reacted, this Wednesday on BFMTV, to the numerous testimonies of sexual violence of students of Sciences Po. She notably questioned “the inter-self” within the circles of male powers.

Feminist activist and Paris advisor Alice Coffin, guest of BFMTV this Wednesday evening, welcomed the freedom of the victims to speak after the proliferation of testimonies from Sciences Po students denouncing systemic sexual violence suffered during their schooling. A movement born after the announcement of the resignation of the director of Sciences Po Frédérique Mion, accused of having killed the Olivier Duhamel affair.

On the 22H Max set, Alice Coffin calls into question the “interpersonal skills” which reigns within circles of male power such as the IEP of Sciences Po, and denounces: “the concentration of men in the same place of power induces a climate conducive to aggression “.

“We are in the process of reaching maturity on these questions”

“There has been a continuum for three years now” in the liberation of speech in France, analyzes Alice Coffin. “And if you watch the news in recent weeks, it’s every day” that rapes or sexual assault are revealed. “We are in the process of reaching maturity on these questions, even if this is only the beginning. But in any case, it is part of a continuity”.

“And in the case of Sciences Po more precisely, we are in line with what happened around the publication of The Big Family by Camille Kouchner. Obviously all of this is linked. In these testimonies, we talk about attacks against students but also teachers, and especially the silences of the various directions. And this is where the link is absolutely direct, ”she says.

Tuesday evening, Frédéric Mion presented his resignation after a series of revelations which increased the mistrust against him within the prestigious institution. He had in particular denied being aware of the actions of Olivier Duhamel, resigned president of the FNSP which heads Sciences Po before modifying his statements. The political scientist is accused by his stepdaughter Camille Kouchner of having raped his twin brother when he was a teenager.
