In the Kalverstraat, one-way traffic was temporarily introduced on Saturday afternoon due to the crowds. This measure was also taken last weekend in the Amsterdam shopping street because of the crowds.
The one-way traffic starts from Dam Square to Spuistraat. In recent days, there has been much discussion about possible measures against crowds in the city center. Shopkeepers in the Kalverstraat argue for a mouth mask obligation, but for the time being this only applies to public transport.
Mayor Halsema said this week that she, like Mayor Aboutaleb of Rotterdam, wanted to campaign for an extension of the mask. She does think that such a measure should then be announced by central government.
