The SCB has for the coming season Daniel Manzato obliged, as the club wrote in a statement on Thursday. The 37-year-old goalkeeper, who is moving from Geneva-Servette to SCB, previously worked in Ambrì and Lugano. Manzato was already briefly in Bern in the 2015/16 season. At the time, however, he was injured in his first game for SCB and could no longer be used as a replacement for the injured Marco Bührer.
With the signing of Daniel Manzato, the SCB is relying on two Swiss goalkeepers, not least to be able to play again with four foreign field players. As a result, the expiring contract with Tomi Karhunen will not be extended. According to the announcement, the Finn has been doing excellent services at the SCB since his arrival in Bern, but he claims a foreigner license.
In addition, the SCB wants to continue to rely more on Philip Wüthrich in the future, who has shown in his first NL season so far that he has the potential to be a top goalie at the highest level. Sports director Florence Schelling is quoted in the message about Daniel Manzato’s arrival: “In our situation, he has the ideal prerequisites. Thanks to his track record and extensive experience, Daniel Manzato is the best possible addition to the young, ambitious Philip Wüthrich. “
Contract extension with Andri Henauer
Furthermore, the SCB extended the contract with its own junior Andri Henauer early by three years until the end of the 2023/24 season. The 18-year-old goalkeeper is currently on loan to SC Langenthal. He will play for La Chaux-de-Fonds next season. After that, it is planned to integrate him into the first team of the SCB.
