For Covid-19, the Bolivian team plays with seven and is only eight minutes on the field | international football

Once again, a Covid-19 spurt leaves a South American team unable to line up 11 starters in a first division match. In Bolivia, Royal Pari entered the field with just seven players against The Strongest, in a game that lasted just eight minutes, at the Hernando Siles stadium, for the seventh round of the Bolivian Championship.

The home team opened the scoring after two minutes, with a goal by Jair Reinoso. Jeyson Chura extended to five, and Willie Barbosa scored the third, at seven. Soon after, Kevin Rosas of the Royal Pari claimed an injury and left the field. Without the minimum number of athletes allowed, referee Raúl Orosco ended the match.

In April, for the Colombian Championship, the Águilas Doradas also only had seven players to face Boyacá Chicó, in another case of Covid-19 outbreak. After holding 0-0 until the first minutes of the second half, the team did not resist and ended up defeated 3-0.

Another similar case occurred in Ecuador, also about a month ago. Aucas had to enter the field with only seven players against Barcelona de Guayaquil, conceded two goals in the beginning, and the goalkeeper was injured in the 19th minute. With an insufficient number of players, the game needed to be suspended.

Last Wednesday, in an official statement, Royal Pari said that tests carried out on April 30 revealed that two players had contracted Covid-19, and other cases were detected the following day, without revealing the total amount.

Still according to the note, after new examinations, carried out last Tuesday, to point out more cases, the board of the Royal Pari decided to initiate a quarantine of seven days in the whole list.

In the statement, the club requested the postponement of the game against The Strongest, alleging concern about the opponent, who will receive Barcelona de Guayaquil next Tuesday, for the fourth round of group C of the Libertadores Cup, the same as Santos.

The request, however, was not accepted by the Bolivian Football Federation. According to a report on the website of the newspaper “La Razón”, The Strongest contested the allegations in the opponent.

– They have a roster of 35 players, as well as others from the youth team who could play. They are the ones who are causing damage to the show, ”said Cristian Alcoreza, chairman of The Strongest’s football committee.
