(dab / watson.ch) After almost four months of interruption, the current football season 2019/20 is probably over. This was decided by the clubs at the extraordinary general meeting of the Swiss Football League according to TV partner Teleclub. 17 of the 20 teams voted to continue the season. It will restart on June 19 in the Super League and Challenge League. At 2:00 p.m., the SFL will comment on its decision in a press conference.

The Swiss professional leagues have been dormant since the end of February due to the coronavirus crisis. Recently there had been gradual easing for the teams. Only the resumption of training was allowed, on Wednesday the federal government then definitely gave the green light for a continuation of the season.

Clear majority against increasing the Super League

The Super League will not be increased from ten to twelve teams. The representatives of the 20 Swiss Football League clubs spoke against the motion by Lausanne-Sport at the extraordinary general assembly in Bern with 14: 5 votes (with one abstention). That leaves ten teams in each of the top two Swiss football leagues. Already on April 23, the clubs had spoken out against a change of mode and an associated increase in the Super League
