The end of April is looming, and PSG players will not find an agreement on the wage effort asked of them by their president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and their sport director Leonardo.
Despite the fine words in the media, but also repeated donations to associations in public or private, the negotiations are no longer progressing. A week ago, however, PSG hoped for a positive conclusion before the end of April, just to mark the occasion, and the cost. Because, if Paris Saint-Germain is not in financial danger, the financial losses are colossal, with a payroll barely falling with partial unemployment, and cash inflows which disappear. As a result, Paris SG did the math, and if it resumes in June for example, 215 ME could be lost over the entire season due to the Covid-19 crisis.
Not enough to raise eyebrows for players, who do not really give a sign of life on the sensitive subject of a more generous drop in wages, as has been done in several major European clubs. Marquinhos and Thiago Silva, appointed by the workforce to discuss this matter with management, discuss regularly, but obviously do not even have the opinion of the entire workforce. According to The Team, some players remain completely silent on the subject, thus blocking progress, while others believe that the agreement reached with the UNFP is sufficient for them. The idea of seeing no permanent drop in wages therefore holds the rope, which risks upsetting Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and the owners of PSG, who were betting on the players’ solidarity for the economic aspect as for the image in these difficult times. Among PSG employees, this could also pass moderately, club members with the lowest wages, who are also unemployed, would have appreciated a gesture towards them on the part of the players. With a recovery now envisaged for May 11, the status quo should therefore prevail.
