Following agreed compensation: The ship that blocked the Suez Canal in March is released

The Ever Given container ship, which ran aground and blocked the Suez Canal for six days in March, will be released on July 7th after an agreement on compensation claims is reached.

The giant sea vessel and its crew were detained after the incident in a lake between two sections of the key waterway until the dispute is settled. The canal management said it would receive a 75-ton tug under the agreement, but gave no further details.

The initial requests were for $ 916 million to cover the costs of unblocking and lost profits. Subsequently, the amount was reduced to 550 million.

The channel’s revenue for the first six months of this year is $ 3 billion. This is 8.8 percent more than for the same period in 2020, despite the incident with “Ever Given”.
