Former defender Manchester City Micah Richards feel Phil Foden have a different style of play with David Silva. He is more dangerous with a high goal instinct.
Manchester City had to lose Silva after his contract ran out at the end of last season. The 34-year-old midfielder has now chosen to return to his hometown to Spain to join Real Sociedad.
Silva left the Etihad Stadium with 77 goals and 140 assists in 436 matches during a decade of career with The Citizens. Silva’s departure is clearly a big loss for City.
Several City fans urged their favorite club to bring in a new player to replace Silva. However, City manager Pep Guardiola seems to prefer to sacrifice Foden to cover up the former Valencia midfielder’s departure.
Guardiola immediately featured Foden as starter when City against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium in their first Premier League match 2020/2021, Tuesday (23/9/2020) early morning WIB. He managed to score one goal and helped his team win 3-1.
Foden’s neat performance in the match against Wolves made Richards think Foden was more dangerous than Silva. This is because the 20-year-old young man has a higher goal scoring instinct than El Mago.
“He is not afraid to have the ball. He controls it with his right foot and plays the ball with his left foot. He does not admire passes because he wants to score goals,” Richards said as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
“This is the difference between David Silva and Foden, for me. David Silva will dictate the game and will be happy to provide assist. Foden will not be happy with assist , he wants to score goals. “
“He has two or three more shots than David Silva in a match. He’s actually really fun to watch,” he explained.
