Flood warning in the UK

The British Met Office, which corresponds to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, has issued three yellow warnings for rain until Friday. The British will experience torrential rains over the next 24 hours.

It will explode along the coast and there is a risk of flooding in large parts of the country.

The Met Office warns of the possibility of damage to buildings and traffic flow problems from flood waters.

Traffic problems

The first alarm concerned areas of the south-east and lasted until six this morning. The Daily Echo reports traffic chaos following flooding in Southampton where, among other things, a roundabout is flooded.

It is currently most dramatic in West Sussex, southeast England. The BBC reports that several railway lines were affected by flooding on Thursday afternoon. Local firefighters are asking motorists to stay off the road unless absolutely necessary.

The second notice applies for 24 hours from midnight on Thursday. The areas it covers stretch along the east coast from Birmingham south to the Scottish border. Wet weather will affect major cities such as Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester.

Up to 100mm of rain

From 3pm today until 6pm tomorrow the rain will increase violently along the east coast of Scotland as far north as areas around Aberdeen. Over the next 24 hours, between 80 and 100 millimeters of rain will fall in these areas.

Flooding alerts have also been issued for these areas.

Eldbjørg Moxnes of the Meteorological Institute says there is a low pressure from the southwest that has stabilized over most of the country.

– It will rain a lot today, but it will weaken over the course of tomorrow. The storm subsides earlier in the south and lasts longer in the northern areas.

According to her, we don’t have to worry about the rainy weather in Norway.

– The low pressure stays in the UK and doesn’t pass as we often see. This is due to cold air masses from Russia keeping it at a distance so that it dies out in Great Britain and does not reach Norway.
