Flight ban on 737 Max disrupts Ryanair’s growth plans Aviation Industry | Industry sectors

The ban on Boeing’s medium-haul 737 Max jets Europe’s largest low-cost airline, Irish laudamotion mother Ryanair, back in its growth plans over the years. The company will reach the threshold of 200 million passengers annually one to two years later than previously planned, said Ryanair when presenting the quarterly figures in Dublin. Instead of in the financial year by the end of March 2024, this goal will only be achieved in 2025 or 2026.

Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary no longer expects the first Boeing 737 Max to be delivered before September or October 2020. The savings that the airline expects from the lower kerosene consumption of the model are therefore unlikely until the end of the coming financial year to be seen.

Ryanair and its daughters operate more than 470 medium-haul jets, almost all of them the conventional Boeing 737. The Irish have ordered 135 copies of the fuel-saving new edition 737 Max, but have not yet received a single aircraft because of the ban on flying. After the crash of two planes, a global take-off for the “Max” has been in effect since March 2019. Boeing now expects the ban to be lifted only in mid-2020. (Apa / dpa)
