For singer-songwriter FLEMMING, 2022 was the year of performing in front of large audiences. If it depends on him, he will remain on stage until after the age of fifty, he says in a conversation with the PNA. “I’ve tasted what it’s like to live your dream this year, and I don’t want to miss it for the world.”
Flemming Freddie Viguurs had his breakthrough in 2021 as a Dutch-speaking solo artist with his hit Amsterdam. Due to the corona measures, he was hardly able to play that song in front of a live audience until last summer.
For FLEMMING, the past year feels like four years have passed. “During the day Amstel friends LIVE I realized that a few years ago I admired the artists with whom I am suddenly on stage now,” says the 26-year-old musician.
The Brabant native’s personal highlight was performing at the festival where he has been a guest since he was fourteen: Easter doll in Schijndel. “I look at it as a kind of home festival. I have it with a cover band Blue girl played a lot. But performing your music on the biggest stage was very special.”
Single had been shelved for three years
Earlier this month, FLEMMING released a single that has been shelved for three years: Paracetamol. “It was the first song I wrote in Dutch, but so far it didn’t feel like the right time to release it.”
Paracetamol is the first single after FLEMMING’s debut album, released in November. With the songs from that album, the singer will go on club tours in the Netherlands and Belgium this fall and next spring. For 2023, the musician has a clear goal. “I will focus on four new singles and the upcoming summer festival.”
One of the places where FLEMMING will be on stage in 2023 is Big with a soft G, the concert series organized by Guus Meeuwis, of which he will be the supporting actor in June. “Even if I won’t score any more hits from now on, I could still perform for years. But I’m full of ambition and motivation to keep going as hard as I can. I’m curious what the future will bring.”
