Five infections with the coronavirus (COVID-19) in De Ronde Venen

Five infections of the coronavirus (COVID-19) have been identified in the municipality of De Ronde Venen. Sunday, March 22, 2 infections were reported: 1 in Mijdrecht and 1 in Abcoude. On Friday March 20, an infection was reported in Mijdrecht, and on Sunday March 15, 2 inhabitants were diagnosed with the coronavirus. This concerned 1 resident from Abcoude and 1 from Mijdrecht. These two people stay in home isolation.

We are in close contact with GGDrU from the municipality to keep up with the latest developments. We wish the patients recovery and privacy, and hope that you, as the reader of this message, also respect this.

Contact research of GGDrU
The contact research that GGDrU always conducts in these kinds of situations is currently taking place. GGDrU uses this to map out who the patients have had contact with. It is important to know that GGDrU always makes contact with people who have been at risk of infection. As a municipality, we follow the advice and instructions of RIVM and GGDrU, which remain alert to new infections and always apply the same protocol when new patients are found: isolation, contact research and continuous monitoring of the patient.

What can you do yourself?
The main measures you can take yourself to prevent the spread of the coronavirus are:

  • Wash hands regularly with soap and water.
  • Cough and sneeze inside the elbow.
  • Use tissue paper and throw it away immediately after use.
  • Do not shake hands.
  • Stay home with colds.

What should you do in case of complaints?
Do you have a cold or increase to 38.0 degrees Celsius? Stay home, get sick and avoid infecting others. So keep your distance from other people. You do not have to call the doctor. Your complaints are mild.
Are your complaints getting worse? You have a fever (more than 38 degrees Celsius) and you cough or breathe hard? Then you can call the GP or GP post. In case of serious complaints, please contact us.

Test Policy RIVM
The test policy has now been changed by RIVM. People with mild complaints will no longer be tested because there is a national measure to stay at home with the first complaints. The (GP) doctor will determine whether someone with complaints should be tested. These are mainly people from vulnerable groups. This concerns people aged 70 years and older and people who are eligible for influenza vaccination on the basis of underlying suffering. These are, for example, people with heart and lung diseases.
RIVM has changed its testing policy in order to better find vulnerable people and to treat them on time. In this way, we ensure that there are sufficient facilities available for people who need them most.

It is possible that the above two people had already been tested before changing the test policy.
