Five infections on World Cup construction sites in Qatar

The corona virus has broken out on the World Cup construction sites in Qatar, which have often been criticized for their poor working conditions. Five infections were registered, the organizing committee for the 2022 World Cup announced on Wednesday. The five workers were deployed to three different stadium construction sites.

Qatar has seven new stadiums built for the World Cup in two years. The conditions for the workers on the construction sites repeatedly cause criticism from human rights organizations. Many of the workers coming from abroad live and work in poor conditions and often receive little or no money.

90 percent of Qatar’s 2.75 million inhabitants are foreigners. Most come from developing countries and work on the World Cup construction sites in the Gulf state.
