Five authorized public sector unions reminded the agreements reached in August

Five unions organized in the public sector called on Prime Minister Ünal Üstel to implement the issues agreed upon at the meeting held in August 2023.

Joint statement on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot Public Servants’ Union (KTAMS), the Turkish Cypriot Public Servants’ Union (Kamu-Sen), the Turkish Cypriot Teachers’ Union (KTÖS), the Turkish Cypriot Secondary Education Teachers’ Union (KTOEÖS) and the TRNC Public Employees’ Union (KAMU-İŞ). KTAMS President Güven Bengihan noted that although the Parliamentary legislative period will start on October 2, it is worrying that the Bill in question has not yet started to be discussed in the Parliamentary Committee.

Bengihan stated that in the agreement reached with the Prime Minister in order to eliminate the salary injustice that existed between those who started working within the scope of the Law on Regulating Monthly (Salary – Wage) and Other Allowances of Public Servants and those who started working before this law, it was agreed that the regulation to be made would be valid as of July, but the work has not started yet. defended.

Güven Bengihan criticized the government for its lack of seriousness and lack of consideration for the public interest.

Pointing out that at the same meeting, they agreed to make a legal regulation regarding tax brackets in the name of “tax justice”, Bengihan said, “It is unacceptable that the work has not yet been initiated to make the necessary legal regulation and enter into force in January. “Moreover, the fact that the work for the necessary legal regulation to reflect the cost of living allowance on salaries three times a year, which was agreed upon in the meeting with the Prime Minister, has not yet been initiated, increases our concerns,” he said.

Pointing out that the protocol table has not been convened, Bengihan said, “Although we have made all the necessary correspondence for the protocol table, which must be convened by the Ministry of Finance every year by calling the authorized unions in the public sector, our unions have not been invited to protocol negotiations for years. “Our request is that the protocol table be convened immediately, especially the legal regulations mentioned above, to be discussed and decided upon,” he said.
