Fitroh Rohcahyanto Resigns from KPK, Attorney General’s Office: Return to Original Institution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Director of Prosecution of the Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK Fitroh Rohcahyanto withdrew and chose to return to the institution of origin in attorney General’s Office. The head of the Information Center for the Attorney General’s Office said that Fitroh’s return was normal for a prosecutor.

Ketut said that Fitroh’s return was not something to be concerned about. He said that a prosecutor must return to his unit if the work contract in the agency where he is placed has ended.

“We assigned and returned to the institution of origin. There’s nothing special about ordinary things,” said Ketut on Sunday 5 February 2023 via a written message.

In addition, Ketut said that Fitroh’s return to the Attorney General’s Office was purely because his term of service at the Corruption Eradication Commission had ended. He emphasized that this had nothing to do with the particular case being handled.

“There’s none of that,” he said.

Previously, Fitroh resigned from his post, which he had not held for five years, amidst the controversy over the KPK’s investigation into the Formula E case.

According to Ketut, there is no limit to the length of service of a prosecutor who is loaned to another institution. He said it depended on the institution that borrowed it from the Attorney General’s Office.

“Every instance is different. It depends on the needs of each institution,” said Ketut.

Head of KPK Reporting Section Ali Fikri said Attorney Fitroh’s return to the Attorney General’s Office was his personal request. He explained that he had submitted this request since the end of 2022.

“At his own request at the end of the year to develop a career at the Attorney General’s Office,” said Ali on Wednesday, January 1, 2023.

He denied that Fitroh’s resignation was due to an internal polemic at the KPK. The polemic arose after it was reported that KPK chairman Firli Bahuri insisted that the Formula E case be raised to the level of investigation even though there were no suspects yet. It is known that this case dragged the name of the former Governor of DKI Anies Baswedan.

But Ali dismissed this notion. Ali said that Fitroh even received an award in the form of a release event which was held by the leadership and all structural members of the KPK. In fact, he said, Attorney Fitroh was also delivered to the Attorney General’s Office.

“He will also be escorted directly by the Secretary General of the KPK to meet the Attorney General as a form of appreciation for his dedication while working at the KPK,” he said.

Ali also said that the KPK had appointed a new Director of Prosecution after Attorney Fitroh returned to his unit. He said Attorney Fitroh would be replaced by Attorney Asri Irwan who had joined the KPK since 2014.

“Pak Asri also served as Chair of the Indonesian Prosecutors Association, a representative at the Corruption Eradication Commission for the period 2018 to 2020,” said Ali, who also has a background in a prosecutor.
