The intervention of a Portuguese Air Force helicopter was necessary to rescue the man who, this Tuesday afternoon, fell into a ravine located at Cidadelhe, in Lindoso, Ponte da Barca.
The air force was eventually requested by the District Command of Operations and Civil Protection Assistance in the face of the enormous difficulties that the rescue teams were having to access the place where the victim was.

The man, a 49-year-old playful fisherman, residing in Vila Verde, was trying to leave the Lima River area after fishing, but ended up suffering a fall on a steep cliff that borders the river at that location, a few kilometers from the border with Spain, already within the Peneda-Gerês National Park.

The alert was given at about 18:00 hours by the fisherman himself, in a first instance for the parish of Soajo, on the other bank. The Arcos de Valdevez Firefighters and the GNR of that municipality were activated, but it was found that the information was wrong, since the man fell from the other side, already in the municipality of Ponte da Barca.

The firefighters and GNR of the second municipality were mobilized, and an aped team went in search of the victim, managing to locate him in a place of almost impossible access. It was then decided to request help from the Air Force for the rescue, which was successful.
“The victim suffered abundance in his right lower limb,” José Freitas told O MINHO. The commander of the Ponte da Barca Fire Department also stresses that the injuries were considered “minor”.
The man was transported by ambulance to the Hospital de Viana.
The GNR of Ponte da Barca registered the occurrence.
