The Minister of Agrarian Development and IrrigationAndrés Alencastre Calderón, affirmed that with the 348 million soles – assigned by Emergency Decree No. 013-2022 – it will be possible to acquire between 80,000 and 106,000 tons of nitrogenous fertilizers to serve small producers, and estimated that the first shipment would arrive in July.
“We estimate that, starting next July 11, the first shipment of urea to our ports“, indicated Alencastre.
As revealed, to meet the requirements of the 2022-2023 agricultural campaign, synthetic fertilizers are available (as urea) and there are also a variety of options (such as island guano and organic fertilizers) to guarantee the fertilization of the crops in the following months.

The head of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) stated that with the first batches, priority will be given to producers who have agricultural units smaller than five hectares, that involve the main crops of the 2022-2023 agricultural campaign and that are related to feeding the population.
On the other hand, Alencastre spoke about the guidelines for his work with MIDAGRI and indicated that it seeks to structure management with a territorial approach.
“This supposes an intergovernmental articulation and a bottom-up relationship, where the protagonists are the territorially located producer organizations themselves, and that will be the agenda from now on,” said the minister.
