It was an unprecedented event in Russia since the 1917 Revolution. The heir to the last Russian Tsar, executed by the Bolsheviks, was married on October 1 in Saint Petersburg in the presence of several European kings.
Grand Duke Gueorgui Romanov, 40, married the Italian Rebecca Bettarini, 39.
The ceremony took place in Saint Isaac’s Cathedral, in the heart of the former imperial capital, in the northwest of the country.
The last wedding in Russia of a member of the Romanov family was that of Tsar Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra, 127 years ago.
At this ceremony, which attracted the interest of the international media, there were some 1,500 guests, among them the Spanish Queen Emeritus Sofia, the deposed King of Bulgaria Simeon II and his wife Margaret, Princess Lea of Belgium, and other representatives of the European royal families. .
