First portrait of William and Catherine painted for wedding anniversary | royals

entertainment">The painting is intended to celebrate the couple’s ties to the British county of Cambridgeshire. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge invited British artist Jamie Coreth to Kensington Palace for several meetings. Twice the couple posed together for Coreth, other times they did so separately.

entertainment">In the painting, Catherine is wearing a green dress she previously wore on a visit to Ireland, with a Queen Elizabeth II brooch and earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana. In the portrait, William is wearing a suit with a blue tie.

‘Extraordinary privilege’

entertainment">Coreth calls it “an extraordinary privilege” to be allowed to shoot the first official portrait of William and Catherine. “I wanted to show them in a way that makes them appear relaxed and approachable as well as elegant and dignified.”

entertainment">The British prince has been portrayed before. In 2009 in a joint portrait with his younger brother Harry, and in 2000 a portrait appeared with the Queen, Elizabeth’s mother, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, William and Harry.
