Arbaje visited the New York Consulate before Luis Abinader’s participation to greet those present who had been waiting for the president for about an hour and 45 minutes.

“Go back to your country, we want you there. That’s why I say that it’s not just to thank you for the remittances, it’s for much more”said the first lady.

“Never allow them to call you diaspora, we are Dominican nationals. And in the future, we hope that you can return to your homes, you can return to your country,” continued the president’s wife.

About the activity

It was the third event that the president attended this Saturday. Early in the morning, he participated in a breakfast with the sectional and consuls of the Dominican Republic in the United States.

Then he met with the Governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, for the promulgation of the Law on Driver’s Licenses for Dominicans in New York.

At the Consulate, the president would deliver keys to homes in the Dominican Republic to Dominicans from the diaspora. The event was scheduled to start at 11:00 am and started at 12:50 pm, almost two hours after the scheduled time.

Abinader said that he is working with the authorities to create an exclusive housing program for the Dominican diaspora.

After handing over the keys to the apartments to two of the beneficiaries, security took the president out of the place.

The project and the location of the homes delivered were not specified.

Strict security measures

President Abinader and his entourage have mobilized in New York City under a strict security protocol.

In order to enter the activities, people, including the press, must be on a list that is verified by the United States Secret Service. Those who do not appear on the list will not be able to enter the space where the president is located.

They have placed fences and distance bars, where only a more exclusive approach is allowed to the press and photographers of the presidential body and of the organizations that the president visits.
