The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) built glass bridge in the National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN) Bromo-Tengger-Semeru, East Java.

The construction carried out by the Tunnel and Structure Geotechnical Center, Bintekjatan, Directorate General of Highways is the Seruni Point Glass Bridge. This bridge is the first glass bridge in Indonesia.

“Infrastructure development in each KSPN is planned in an integrated manner, including regional planning, roads, supply of raw and clean water, waste management, sanitation, and improvement of residential areas through a master plan for infrastructure development,” Basuki explained. 6/2022).

This glass pedestrian bridge spans 120 meters with a width of 1.8 meters in the main span and 3 meters at the beginning and middle of the span, over a ravine with a depth of about 80 meters.

The suspension bridge floor/deck structure system is a layered safety glass (laminated glass) consisting of two or more sheets of glass, which are glued together using one or more interlayers with a total thickness of 25.55 mm. This bridge structure is equipped with double protection steel in the form of galvanized steel coated with epoxy paint to make it more resistant to rust.

The bridge, which was built with the suspended cable type, will begin work at the end of September 2021 and is targeted for completion by the end of September 2022. Until now, the physical progress of the work has reached approximately 50%.

The construction is in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK) because it crosses the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park area and the Probolinggo Regency Government as a provider of land for one of the legs of the bridge.

The presence of this glass bridge is an adrenaline tourist destination that connects the Seruni Point Tourism Terminal with the Shuttle Area with views of Mount Bromo, Mount Batok and Mount Semeru. Thus, this bridge is expected to increase tourist visits to the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru KSPN.

“We will try so that the construction of the glass bridge can be completed according to the planned time.

In the future, the operational management of the glass bridge will be carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the Probolinggo Regency Government so that it can boost the number of tourists to Bromo and can increase the economic cycle, especially improving the welfare of local residents, “explained the Head of the Geotechnical, Tunnel and Structures Center, Fahmi Aldiamar.

Fahmi added that this glass bridge was built with comprehensive planning calculations according to standards and through a laboratory test process so that this bridge will be safe to function for tourists.
