First coronavirus infection in Leidschendam-Voorburg

Leidschendam-Voorburg – A thirty-year-old man from Leidschendam-Voorburg is infected with the new corona virus. This was determined yesterday evening after laboratory tests. In total there are now six infections with the virus in the Haaglanden region.

This person recently returned from a holiday in northern Italy. It is very likely that he contracted the virus there. He is in home isolation with symptoms of illness, but is recovering well.

Contact investigation

GGD Haaglanden immediately launched a contact investigation to identify who this person had contact with during the contagious period. These people are approached by the GGD. They must monitor their health during the 14-day incubation period. If they get complaints that fit the new corona virus, they are asked to stay at home and contact GGD Haaglanden.

Alertness

The GGD Haaglanden and RIVM remain alert to possible new infections. If new infections are found, the GGD applies the same protocol: isolation, contact investigation and continuous monitoring of the patient and his / her contacts. These measures reduce the chance that the disease can spread in the Netherlands.
