Two cargo ships arrived at the port of Ukraine following the new route in the Black Sea. The ship arrived at Chornomorsk port. The ships Resilient Africa and Aroyat arrived in Chornomorsk. These are the first cargo ships to use the temporary corridor to enter Black Sea ports. Ukrainian authorities announced that they will export 20,000 tons of wheat to the world market via the ship that arrived in Chornomorsk.

In July this year, Russia pulled out of an agreement to ensure the safety of ships and allow Ukraine to ship goods to various parts of the world through the Black Sea. After this, Ukraine announced a humanitarian corridor. Ukraine has unilaterally chosen the maritime corridor along the western coast of the Black Sea near Romania and Bulgaria. The ships also flew the flag of the Oceanic island nation of Palau. The ship’s crew is from Ukraine, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Egypt, and the ships will deliver wheat to Egypt and Israel, the Ministry of Agriculture of Ukraine said.

After withdrawing from the deal, Russia said it would consider civilian ships bound for Ukraine as military targets. Russia has pulled out of the accord, saying it has not respected parts of the deal that allow food and fertilizer exports, and that Western sanctions restrict its own agricultural exports.

Ukraine is one of the world’s largest suppliers of crops such as sunflower oil, barley, corn and wheat. When Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, its navy blockaded the country’s Black Sea ports. 20 million tons of grain meant for export got stuck with this. After that, food prices in the world soared and food shortages worsened in the Middle East and African countries.
