Firmware OnePlus Nord contains reference to possibly cheaper version – Tablets and phones – News

The firmware of the soon-to-be released OnePlus Nord smartphone contains references to a possibly cheaper variant of the device. That smartphone would have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 690-soc.

The code contains references to a device codenamed Billie, a suspected reference to singer-songwriter Billie Ellish, writes XDA-Developers. The Nord is codenamed Avicii, like the Swedish DJ who died a few years ago.

The Billie appears in the firmware under two different names, Billie2T and Billie8T. The site does not know what that means. OnePlus has previously said that the Nord will not stand alone, but will be part of a new range of midrange phones.

The smartphone uses the Snapdragon 690, a soc with 5g that Qualcomm announced last month. The first phones with that soc should come online before the end of the year. It is slightly less powerful than the Snapdragon 765 from the Nord, but it does support screens with high refresh rates, video recording at 4k and 5g at frequencies below 6GHz. OnePlus has not yet responded to the find.
