A large fire is consuming a forest area in the parish of Seroa, in Paços de Ferreira, next to the Prison Establishment, approaching several factories in the industrial area of Seroa.
The fire now active in Paços de Ferreira started this Friday in the Serra de Valongo, having rekindled on Saturday.
The intensity of the flames, combined with the high temperatures that were felt during the day, caused the fire to spread to Serra da Agrela, belonging to the municipality of Santo Tirso and to pass the National Road that connects Agrela to Paços de Ferreira, being now in the municipality of Pacense, very close to factories.
“Flames are consuming an area of bush and firefighters are protecting factories, which are not at risk, despite the flames being very close“, explained to JN Rui Barbosa, president of the Seroa Parish Council. According to the mayor, this is an essentially industrial area, with no houses close to the fire.
The flames are being fought by more than two hundred operatives, supported by 65 vehicles.
