Fired from Warner Bros. with major consequences?

A major reorganization is about to take place at WarnerMedia. Some 800 people are expected to be fired, most of them at Warner Bros. Pictures. and part at HBO.

The wave of layoffs is due to a sharp fall in income due to the corona crisis. The senior WarnerMedia pief Robert Greenblatt (WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer) had to leave last week and also the names Kevin Reilly (Chief Content Officer, HBO Max and President TNT, TBS, and truTV) and Keith Cocozza (EVP Corporate Marketing & Communications) are gone.

Ann Sarnoff will be the new face in charge of all fim and TV studios and TV channels. Not a nauseous task.

HBO Max the cause?
The impact seems great and this probably also has to do with the fact that WarnerMedia expects a lot from HBO Max, the streaming service that started in the States earlier this year. At the end of June, the service had (only) 4.1 million subscribers.

It is striking that Robert Greenblatt probably played an important role in the green light for Zack Snyder’s Justice League to be released in 2021. The impact on that film is of course not yet known.
