Fire: – The hospital is on fire – the heart operation continues

At the same time as the flames rose from the building, and fire crews fought an intense battle to extinguish them, yesterday a medical team of eight people stood in the middle of a heart operation in the operating room.

According to Russia’s emergency department, the hospital, located in Blagoveshchensk, Russia, was built in 1907.

“The fire spread like lightning through the wooden roofs,” the ministry said in a statement.

– Did everything

120 people were evacuated from the hospital, but the team of eight was far from the first to do so.

They decided to complete the operation they were undergoing, which was an open heart operation.

– We had to do everything to save this patient, and we did everything, says chief surgeon Valentin Filatov, according to BBC.

At the same time as the flames rose from the roof of the hospital, the operation could continue, thanks to an emergency cable that went into the operating room on the ground floor, as well as fans that kept the smoke out.

It took the medical team two hours to complete the operation – and after the patient was evacuated from the burning building, they were able to establish that the operation had been successful.

According to BBC it is believed that it was a short circuit that triggered the fire.
