There was a fire in the beauty salon The Empire on the Nieuwe Binnenweg in Rotterdam on Wednesday evening. Residents of the apartment above the salon were rescued by the fire brigade. They were given an escape mask to leave their smoke-filled house.

According to the fire service, the fire started in the meter cupboard of the beauty salon. A lot of smoke was released. The residents of the upper floor hid themselves on a kind of balcony at the back of their apartment. Because the fire brigade could not reach the back of the row of houses, they were given an escape mask to get out through the smoking building. The two were taken to hospital.
The fire service also rescued two adults and a baby from a neighboring apartment. A ladder truck was used in the rescue operation. The Nieuwe Binnenweg was closed for a while due to the fire. The beauty salon was destroyed by the fire.
