The commemorative editions 2€ with a discrete value keep popping up endlessly; today, for example, we are talking about a commemorative with a remarkable price. As you will already know if you have been following us for some time, comemorative editions are those coins that are created in honor of an eventfrom a character Oh you an anniversary/date to remember. Among the most famous that we have analyzed together are the specimen from €2 French in honor of 60th anniversary of the cartoon in Asterix and Obelix; the one minted by the principality of Monaco on the occasion of 25th Anniversary of Grace Kelly’s Death; and we can’t wait to tell you about the €2 dedicated to Raffaella Carrà, as soon as they come out in 2023.
€2 EMU 1999-2009
The €2 we want to pay attention to today, on the other hand, are a commemorative edition minted, not only from Italy, but from all states belonging to the “Eurozone.” Usually, each State issues its own commemorative edition annually; this one, however, having a common event, was coined by all. The production took place in 2009 on the occasion of 10th anniversary of the Economic and Monetary Union. Let’s see its features!
The obverse of the coin presents a representation chosen directly by the citizens of the European Union through an online contest. It’s about a stylized human figure which today we would commonly call “stickman“; the left arm of the little man, merges into the horizontal dashes of the Euro symbol €. Above the coin, in the case of our nation, we find the writing in capital letters “ITALIAN REPUBLIC”; while below the central representation, there is the inscription EMU 1999-2009 to want to remember the anniversary. On the right, we find the monogram of the State Mint “R” and all around the coin, in the silver part of the bezel, there are the classics 12 5-pointed stars representing the states of the Union.
The value of this coin, contrary to how you believe, it is not elevated; this does not mean, however, that you cannot be in possession of a specimen with a minting error just like the one who found it clear in his pocket; he decided to sell his own coin with the little man for 600€ on Ebay. We are not able to decree whether that coin actually has that value, for sure, however, we can say that it definitely has a bizarre look!
