Fincantieri, four French Navy ships will be built in the Castellammare plant

Four French Navy ships will be built in the Fincantieri factory in Castellammare di Stabia. A major new order arrives from France for the Stabiese shipyard, where the ceremonial cutting of the sheet metal of the first of four bow sections took place for as many LSS (Logistic Support Ship) logistic support units ordered to Fincantieri by Chantiers de l ‘ Atlantique under the Flotlog program (Flotte logistique). The sections will all be built in the Castellammare di Stabia construction site, with deliveries scheduled between 2021 and 2027.

This collaboration between Chantiers de l’Atlantique and Fincantieri is part of the wider alliance between Italy and France on surface ships. The LSS project, like that of the other units of the multiannual program for the renewal of the Italian Navy fleet, is characterized by a very high level of innovation which makes the ship extremely flexible in the different usage profiles with a high degree of efficiency.

The French order also represents an important breath of oxygen for the Castellammare shipyard, for which an investment of 35 million has been provided by the national government for the structural modernization, which involves the entire port area. Although the challenge for the construction of the construction basin still appears to be an insurmountable obstacle and the construction of whole ships in Castellammare is now a chimera.
