Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox: Everything is in place according to its producer Naoki Yoshida

It has been more than ten years now that we have been talking about a possible arrival of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox-Mag. Between rumors and official statements, the title of Square-Enix has often played the card of the emotional lift until then, with the result that we know. It must be said that the decision-makers of Square-Enix have always pointed the finger at the aging system of Xbox Live and its obligation to pay a subscription to Microsoft, even if the game is free-to-play or has its own subscription system, as is the case with Final Fantasy XIV.

But that would be changing according to the confession of Naoki Yoshida, the current producer of the MMORPG. In an interview given to our Japanese colleagues at Game Watch, we learn that Phil Spencer has been forcing for several years with the Japanese publisher and that his efforts could well end up paying off.

«We keep in touch. I have talked with Phil a lot and have been doing so for three and a half years. Phil visits the Square-Enix offices every six months and we exchange emails too. The first time we spoke together, their cross-play policy was very restrictive. It consisted of keeping the players in a closed environment.

But we ended up agreeing that consoles were no longer an end and the most important thing is to see how the community evolves, and what it asks for. Phil has made several changes within the Xbox brand to allow FFXIV to come out on top, with the desire to make our work easier. When he tells you he’s ready to play the game, he’s telling the truth. I want to develop our sales in the future, and we will not disrespect any of our partners. ”

If the arrival of Final Fantasy XIV now seems strongly compromised on Xbox One, it would seem, however, that Phil Spencer finally manages to materialize its release on Xbox Series X. We will obviously wait for an official announcement in this direction but current rumors about the disappearance of Xbox Live Gold may well end up tipping the scales in the right direction.
