Former French Prime Minister François Fillon was sentenced on Monday to five years in prison, two of which are closed and his wife Penelope to three years suspended. Both were found guilty in the fictitious job suspicion case.
This affair had poisoned the presidential campaign of the right-wing candidate in 2017.
The criminal court tacitly rejected the defense’s requests to reopen the proceedings to shed light on possible “pressures” during the investigation.
