FilGoal | News | Tennis – Mayar Sharif: Supporting Mohamed Salah made me very happy … and advice from Anas Jaber

Egyptian Mayar Sharif expressed her happiness with the support given to her by Mohamed Salah, the star of Liverpool, during her career in the Roland Garros tennis tournament.

Mayar Sharif achieved a great achievement and became the first Egyptian in history to reach the main role of a Grand Slam tournament in tennis.

“It is very nice to receive this support from a very special person in Egypt,” Mayar Sherif said on the official website of the tournament, commenting on Salah’s support.

He added, “Salah is a unique person. He made me feel that there was an important person following me. I thank God for that.”

And she continued: “It is special for me that people get to know me, and that they realize the effort I am making and that I am doing something different, this constitutes mental support.”

She added, “It is not easy to leave your homeland and venture to be one of the best players in the world with the sport of your country not the best.”

“Then you are trying to believe in yourself, forge your way and work very hard, and he did it quickly and now he is one of the best soccer players in the world.”

And she explained: “He did not reach the top and retreat, but he continues at the same level, this is amazing.”

Ranked No. 172 in the world, she traveled to complete her studies in the United States and practiced tennis, and obtained a degree in sports medicine from Pepperdine University.

On this, Mayar says: “I have a wonderful feeling. I feel that I have taken the right path, because many people said that going to university in America was a mistake.”

“I started last year at the age of 23, but I have a lot of years to play tennis, so I’m not in a hurry,” she added.

And she continued, “Even if I do not achieve success now, I will be patient during the next two, three, four, or five years. I realize that I have the level, and this is the most important thing.”

The 24-year-old Egyptian player received some advice from Tunisian Ons Jaber and her coach Essam Jalali, before facing American Katie McNally in the qualifiers for Roland Garros.

Ons Jaber is a former youth champion of Roland Garros, and is ranked # 30 in the world.

“Frankly, I don’t think Mayar needed our advice,” says Anas Jaber. “She played great, and I’m very happy for her.”

“I am very happy to have two Arab players in the main role from Roland Garros,” she added. “I hope we will make a good impression in the tournament together.”

Mayar Sharif will play second-seeded Czech Karolina Pliskova, next Monday, in the main first round from Roland Garros.

The Roland Garros matches are broadcast on beIN Sports 9,10.
